Exclusive Interview with Dr. S. Dwarakeesh (Honoris Causa)

Must Read

Q: To begin with, could you tell us about your early life and family background?
A: I was born into a traditional family. My father, N.S. Sankaranarayanan, was a guiding pillar in my life until his passing. My mother, K. Perumapillai, is a retired Panchayat Junior Assistant and a strong inspiration to me. I don’t have siblings, so my parents and I shared a very close bond. My childhood was filled with values, discipline, and encouragement from them. They always taught me that education and creativity should go hand in hand. Their constant support is the foundation of everything I have achieved today.

Q: How was your childhood? Did you show signs of writing even then?
A: Yes, from a very young age, I was curious and loved to express myself through words. During school, I wrote short stories, small poems, and simple articles. I was not sure whether they had any value back then, but my teachers and friends appreciated them. That gave me confidence. Childhood for me was simple but meaningful—it laid the seeds of my writing journey.

Q: Tell us about your education and the path that led you to become a writer.
A: I completed my undergraduate studies in engineering. During my college days, I started writing more seriously, shaping my thoughts into structured articles and manuscripts. At first, it was just a way to record my ideas, but gradually, I realized that writing could impact others. That is when I decided to publish books, not just for myself but also for readers who seek knowledge, inspiration, or guidance.

Q: Could you walk us through your professional journey?
A: Alongside my writing journey, I also serve in a technical supportive role at Amrita ViswaVidyapeetham, Nagercoil campus. This role has been a meaningful part of my career because it allows me to stay close to technology, education, and academic development. Working in this supportive role has taught me the importance of discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving—all qualities that also reflect in my writing journey.

Q: Let’s talk about your books. What inspired each of them?
A:

  • Foundation of Artificial General Intelligence – This was inspired by my interest in Artificial Intelligence. I wanted to simplify the concept of AGI so that even students could grasp its foundation.
  • Gender Imbalance and Demographic Shifts – This came from my observation of social issues. It highlights one of the most critical challenges society faces today. Winning the Best Fiction Book Award for this was a proud moment.
  • Arduino and Raspberry Pi in Electrical Projects – As someone with a technical background, I wanted to create a practical guide for engineering students. This book bridges the gap between theory and real-world application.

For me, every book is a part of my identity. They represent different sides of my knowledge and creativity.

Q: You have been honored with several awards and recognitions. Could you share what they mean to you?
A: Every award carries its own significance. Being recognized by the World Book of Records and the India Book of Records was a milestone. Receiving the Pride of Tamil Nadu, Nation Pride Award, Global Icon of India Award, and multiple Honorary Doctorates made me realize that my words have truly reached people. These awards are not just personal achievements; they are responsibilities. They remind me that my work should continue to inspire others and uphold quality.

Q: Did you face challenges along the way?
A: Of course. Every writer faces doubts—whether their work will be appreciated, whether it will reach readers, or whether it will stand the test of time. In the beginning, I too had uncertainties. But my belief in my ideas and the encouragement from my parents gave me strength. Criticism was another challenge, but I learned to take it positively and use it to improve myself.

Q: What are your other interests beyond writing?
A: I am passionate about teaching and singing. Teaching allows me to share knowledge and connect with young minds. Singing, on the other hand, brings me peace and joy—it keeps me rooted in culture and emotion. Both these interests balance my life and also influence my writing by giving me new inspirations.

Q: Which moment in your journey do you consider unforgettable?
A: The moment I received my first major recognition remains unforgettable. It was proof that my efforts were not in vain. Another proud moment was when my book on gender imbalance won the Best Fiction Book Awardand also I got india world book of Records, Influencer book of Records.
These milestones made me realize that literature has the power to travel beyond borders and touch lives.

Q: What is your vision for the future?
A: My vision is to continue writing books that are meaningful, original, and timeless. I want to leave behind a legacy of knowledge and creativity for future generations. Apart from writing, I also want to mentor aspiring authors, guiding them to find their voice.

Q: Finally, what message would you like to give to young writers and readers?
A: My message is simple: “Don’t write for recognition—write from your heart.” Recognition will eventually come if your words are genuine. Be fearless, be original, and don’t let criticism silence your voice. Writing is not just about books; it is about influencing lives. If you can touch even one life with your words, you have already succeeded as a writer.
